Response to Michelle Obama's Becoming Documentary
_So it's not getting back on track, it's creating my next track._ (1).png

I just finished watching Michelle Obama’s Becoming documentary on Netflix. I can never quite put into words what it meant for me to have her be the First Lady of the United States, and what it means to live in the same space and time with her. When Former President Obama was elected in 2008, I was 24 years old, fresh out of college and teaching High School at the time. In fact, the year that he was elected, that Fall, I started working at Michelle Obama’s Alma Mater - Whitney Young Magnet High School.

The night that she kicked off the book tour in Chicago, I was there in the United Center, and had the opportunity to attend the event with one of my mentees - Del Marie, thanks to one of my friends Kris Christian and her amazing husband Derrick. The energy in the United Center was just as high as any concert and despite being there with thousands of people, it truly felt like an intimate conversation. As a Black Woman, Michelle Obama will forever be #goals, as she has tackled some of life’s most difficult and challenging situations with class, grace and style! I share her passion of working with young people and believe that it is possible to have a healthy relationship & family & a successful and meaningful career. I also love her courage and her willingness to be vulnerable. Now at 36, I am still very much inspired by Michelle Obama and look forward to seeing what this next chapter holds for her and her beautiful girls! I also feel encouraged and inspired to continue to pursue and live the many different chapters that my life holds for me but the consistent thread will be class, grace, style and impact!

I created some graphics of my favorite quotes. Feel free to download them and share them.

Lastly, click the link below to watch short clips of the footage I was able to gather via my cell phone from the event! I hope you can feel the energy of what it was like to be in the room!
