Donnie Is Now Writing On Medium!

I have been a blogger for as long as I can remember! In addition to blogging here, I am now writing for Medium. Check out the excerpts from my first two blogs below and then click the button if you want to read the full pieces. I have been a fan of Medium for a long time now and before writing for them became a paying member. I am excited to have a new platform to add to list!
My first Medium piece, “How To Boost Your Self Confidence When You’re Feeling Low”
This season of my life has been filled with lots of rejection. Opportunities that I thought would move forward seem stalled. The stuff that I have been putting out into the world hasn’t resonated in the way that I had hoped. Fall is my favorite season, but in the Upper Midwest where I am located, it seems to be playing tug-of-war with summer. Every day when I wake up, I seem to be facing a list of what I HAVEN’T done, and that list just keeps growing. This isn’t the first time in my life that I have felt defeated. This isn’t the first time in my life that I have felt discouraged. This isn’t the first time in my life that I have felt down.
The thing I have learned about this current state is that it is not permanent and that no matter how loud my inner critique gets, it is my responsibility to feel my emotions without becoming them. Emotions are data points and metrics that we can use to carry us to a better emotion. Read the rest here.
My second piece, I just published today "5 Things To Do When Starting A Consulting Business.”
This year I decided to start my 3rd business — a consulting firm. Even just a year ago, I too would roll my eyes when someone mentioned that they were a consultant. The term seemed to be a catchall for entrepreneurs who had yet to define their work. I’d come across one too many people who were fresh out of college, with little to no experience calling themselves “consultants.” I started my full-time professional career in 2006 as a High School Teacher. Over the years people would come to me with all sorts of questions:
“How do I find scholarships for my child?”
“How do I create a curriculum?”
“Can you edit my Masters Thesis?”
“Can you edit my dissertation?”
“What do you think about my cover letter?”
All of these people were in my network in some capacity or connected to people in my network. I would offer my advice, recommendations or support. In some cases, specifically with the editing, I’d charge a fee. Once the process was over, I’d return to the business of grading papers and writing lesson plans. In 2014 I left the classroom to run a nonprofit organization I co-founded called Art of Culture (formerly Donda’s House). Read the rest here.
My plan is to publish on Medium at least once per week. If you have questions or ideas about what you want me to write about, feel free to drop them below! Thank you!
